Guoneng Nanjing Electric Power Testing and Research Co., Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Science and Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. of China Energy Group. The company focuses on the research, development, and engineering application of low-carbon technologies in the power sector, with notable business strengths in the hydrogen energy field. It is deeply involved in the full‑chain deployment of the hydrogen economy, serving as the lead institution of the Jiangsu Provincial Engineering Research Center for the Safe and Efficient Utilization of Hydrogen (and Ammonia) in the Power Sector. Furthermore, it is the sole core participant covering all three major working groups in Jiangsu Province—"hydrogen production, storage, and transportation," "hydrogen refueling and utilization," and "industrial support"—providing critical support for the implementation of hydrogen‑related policies and the development of a robust industry ecosystem.

Coal-fired hydrogen-blending technology

Coal-fired hydrogen-blending technology

Hydrogen‑co‑firing technology involves blending a certain proportion of hydrogen with pulverized coal and co‑combusting the mixture in coal‑fired power plants or industrial boilers. The underlying principle leverages hydrogen's rapid combustion rate and high flame temperature to optimize combustion conditions, enhance the burnout of pulverized coal, and, thanks to hydrogen's clean‑burning characteristics, reduce pollutant formation. Its key advantages lie in dual benefits: energy savings and efficiency gains, coupled with low‑carbon emissions reductions. Hydrogen‑assisted combustion lowers the excess air ratio, thereby decreasing flue‑gas heat losses; the high‑temperature flame also enhances heat transfer, boosting boiler thermal efficiency. Meanwhile, since hydrogen combustion produces only water, substituting it for part of the coal can cut carbon emissions and reduce nitrogen oxide and particulate matter emissions.

Hydrogen-blending technology for natural gas

Hydrogen-blending technology for natural gas

Hydrogen‑blended gas technology involves mixing hydrogen into natural gas at a specified ratio, enabling its delivery through existing gas distribution networks and subsequent combustion at end‑use points. The underlying principle leverages hydrogen's rapid combustion rate and high flame propagation speed to optimize the combustion process, while its clean, zero‑carbon emissions help reduce the overall environmental footprint of the combustion system. Its key advantage lies in striking a balance between low‑carbon transformation and system compatibility: substituting part of the natural gas with hydrogen directly cuts carbon emissions, and the high temperatures generated during hydrogen combustion enhance combustion efficiency. Moreover, at appropriate blending ratios, this technology is fully compatible with existing gas appliances and infrastructure, eliminating the need for large‑scale retrofits.
