The first nuclear power plant has begun operation in 1991. In 2017, the installed capacity of nuclear power reached 35.82 million kW and the total installed capacity of those under construction reached 21 million kW, ranking the 4th and the 1st in the world respectively. Over the past 40 years, the proportion of installed capacity of 300,000 kW and above thermal power plants to the total installed thermal power capacity increased from 3.82% in 1978 to 73.69% in 2017. The total number of one million kilowatts or above power plants increased from 2 in 1978 to 449 in 2017.
Great Efforts on Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction
Outstanding Contributions to Ecological Progress
The power generation efficiency of coal-fired power plants, resources utilization and pollutants and CO2 emission control have reached the world’s advance level. In 2017, the emission of soot, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides was about 260,000 tons, 1.2 million tons, 1.14 million tons, reduced by 3.36 million tons, 2.97 million tons, 1.147 million tons from 1990 respectively. The emission per kWh of soot, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides from thermal generation was 0.06g, 0.26g, 0.25g respectively, reaching the world’s advance level.
